1068 – Abū Ubayda Alī ibn al-Husayn ibn Harb al-Qādī informed us, saying: Abū al-Ashath Ahmad ibn al-Miqdām informed us, saying: Al-Mutamir ibn Sulaymān narrated to us, from his father, from Abū Nadra, from Jābir, who said: “The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—would stand beside a rock, a piece of wood, or something else upon which he could lean while delivering sermons. He then had a pulpit made and would stand upon it. The object beside which he had formerly stood cried out in yearning so loudly that the people in the mosque heard it. The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—then went to it and stroked it—or, as he said, touched it—whereupon it fell silent.”
