1065 — Abū Ahmad Hārūn ibn Yūsuf ibn Ziyād also narrated to us, saying: Ibn Abī Umar—that is, Muhammad al-Adanī—narrated to us, saying: Husayn ibn Alī al-Jufī narrated to us, saying: Zāida ibn Qudāma al-Thaqafī narrated to us, from Husayn, from Sālim ibn Abī al-Jad, who said: al-Numān ibn Muqarrin narrated to us, saying:

“We came to the Messenger of Allah as a delegation of four hundred men from Muzayna.” He said ⦗1581⦘: “The Messenger of Allah gave us certain instructions. Some of the men said, ‘Messenger of Allah, we have no food to take as provisions for the journey.’ The Messenger of Allah said, ‘Umar, provide them with provisions.’ Umar replied, ‘Messenger of Allah, I have only a small quantity of dates left, and I do not think it will suffice them in the least.’ He said, ‘Go and provide them with provisions.’

“So he took us with him and opened an upper room. Inside was a quantity of dates the size of a gray camel. The men took what they needed. I was the last of them, and when I looked back, I could not see that even the space occupied by a single date was missing, although four hundred men had carried provisions away from it.”
