1056 — Abū Ahmad Hārūn ibn Yūsuf narrated to us, saying: Ibn Abī Umar al-Adanī narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Fudayl narrated to us, from Abd al-Wāhid ibn Ayman, from his father, from ⦗1571⦘ Jābir ibn Abd Allah, who said:

“When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) dug the Trench, the Muslims suffered severe hardship and hunger, to the point that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) tied a stone against his stomach because of hunger. I went to my family, slaughtered a young she-goat that I had, and asked them, ‘Do you have any flour?’ They replied, ‘We have several measures of barley flour.’ I instructed them to bake it into bread and prepare the meal.

“Then I went to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, I have prepared some food for you and a small group of your Companions.’ He said, ‘Go and make your food ready until I come to you.’ So I did. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) arrived with the entire army. I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, it is only a young she-goat that I prepared, along with some barley flour, for you and a small group of your Companions.’

“He called for a large bowl and said, ‘Put some of the meat in it.’ I did so. He then pronounced the name of Allah—Glorious is His Majesty—over it and prayed for blessing. He said, ‘Bring ten men in to me.’ I did so, and when they had eaten their fill, they left. He then said, ‘Bring in another ten.’ I did so, and when they had eaten their fill, I brought in ten more, until the entire army had eaten its fill, while the food remained almost as much as it had been.”
