1055 — Ibn Sā'id also narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Jabbār ibn al-Alā' narrated to us, saying: Yahyā ibn Sulaym narrated to me, saying: Abd Allah ibn Khuthaym informed me, saying: I heard Abū al-Tufayl say: I heard Ibn Abbās say:

“When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) encamped at Marr during the truce with ⦗1570⦘ Quraysh, he learned that Quraysh were saying, ‘Muhammad’s Companions cannot keep pace with one another because of emaciation and weakness.’ They said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, if we were to slaughter some of our mounts and eat their meat and fat, then tomorrow, when we set out to meet the people, our strength would be restored.’ He replied, ‘No. Instead, bring me what remains of your provisions.’ They spread out leather mats and poured onto them what remained of their provisions. He prayed that they be blessed therein, and they ate until they were completely full. Then they packed the remaining provisions into their leather bags.”
