1040 — Al-Firyābī narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us, saying: Rayhān ibn Saīd narrated to us, saying: Abbād ibn Mansūr narrated to us, from Ayyūb, from Abū Qilāba, from Khālid ibn al-Lajlāj, that Abd Allah ibn Abbās told him that one morning the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came to his Companions visibly delighted, and they could see the joy on his face. He said to them: “My Lord—Glorious and Exalted is He—came to me last night in the most beautiful form and said, ‘O Muhammad!’ I replied, ‘At Your service, my Lord, ever ready to obey You.’ He said, ‘Do you know over what the Highest Assembly disputes?’ I replied, ‘Yes, my Lord. They dispute over the deeds that expiate sins: walking on foot to the congregational prayers and completing ablution thoroughly on bitterly cold mornings.’ He said, ‘You have spoken the truth, O Muhammad. Whoever does that will live in goodness and be as free of sin as on the day his mother gave birth to him.’”
