103 — And Yūsuf ibn Yaqūb the judge informed us, saying: Abū al-Rabī—that is, al-Zahrānī—narrated to us, saying: Jarīr—that is, Ibn Abd al-Hamīd—narrated to us, from Mansūr, from Ibrāhīm, from Alqamah, who said: Abd Allah said, “Allah has cursed women who tattoo, women who seek to be tattooed, and women who create gaps between their teeth for beauty, thereby altering the creation of Allah Most High.”
News of this reached a woman from Banū Asad called Umm Yaqūb, who used to read the Quran. She came to him ⦗421⦘ and said, “What is this report that has reached me about you—that you have cursed women who tattoo, women who are tattooed, and women who create gaps between their teeth for beauty, thereby altering the creation of Allah Most High?”
Abd Allah replied, “Why should I not curse those whom the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed, when this is in the Book of Allah Most High?”
She said, “I have read the Quran from cover to cover, but I did not find this.”
Abd Allah replied, “Had you truly read it, you would indeed have found it.” Then he said:
“Whatever the Messenger gives you, accept it; and whatever he forbids you, refrain from it.” [al-Hashr: 7]
