990 — Abū Shuayb Abd Allah ibn al-Hasan al-Harrānī also narrated to us, saying: Abd Allah ibn Jafar al-Raqqī narrated to us, saying: Ubayd Allah—that is, Ibn Amr—narrated to us, from Ishāq ibn Rāshid, from al-Zuhrī, from Urwa, Saīd ibn al-Musayyib, Alqama ibn Waqqās, and Ubayd Allah ibn Abd Allah, all of whom narrated from Aisha the lengthy account of the false accusation, up to her words ⦗1470⦘:

“I lay down on my bed. Allah knows that I am innocent and that He will vindicate me. Yet I had never expected Allah—Glorious and Exalted—to send down concerning me a revelation that would be recited. In my own eyes, I was far too insignificant for Allah—Glorious and Exalted—to speak about me in words that would be recited. I had only hoped that Allah—Glorious and Exalted—would show the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—a dream in which Allah—Glorious and Exalted—would vindicate me.”

She continued: “By Allah, the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—had not stirred from his seat, nor had anyone in the household left, when Allah—Glorious and Exalted—sent down revelation. He was seized by the intense strain that used to come upon him, until beads of sweat like pearls streamed from him even on a wintry day, owing to the weight of the words being sent down upon him.”

She continued: “When the strain was lifted from the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—he was smiling, and the first words he uttered were: ‘As for Allah—Glorious and Exalted—He has indeed declared you innocent.’”

He then related the account of the revelation of the verses refuting those responsible for the false accusation and continued the hadith to its conclusion.
