985 — Abū Bakr Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Abd al-Hamīd al-Wāsitī ⦗1466⦘ also narrated to us, saying: Yaʿqūb ibn Ibrāhīm al-Dawraqī narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahmān al-Tufāwī narrated to us, from Hishām ibn Urwa, from his father, from Aisha—may Allah have mercy on her—who said: Al-Hārith ibn Hishām asked the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—“How does revelation come to you?” He replied: “At times it is like the ringing of a bell; then it leaves me after I have understood and retained what was said. At other times, he comes to me in the likeness of a man and speaks to me, and I retain what he says.”
