976 — Abū Bakr Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Abd al-Hamīd al-Wāsitī narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Rizq Allah al-Kalwadhānī narrated to us, saying: Ya‘qūb ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Sa‘d narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to me, from al-Walīd ibn Kathīr al-Madanī, from Muhammad ibn Amr ibn Halhala, that Talha ibn Ubayd Allah ibn Kurayz informed him that he heard Umm Salama—may Allah be pleased with her—the wife of the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—say:
“We indeed find the description of the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—in some of the scriptures: His name is al-Mutawakkil (the One Who Places His Trust in Allah). He is neither harsh nor coarse, nor clamorous in the marketplaces. When he hears an evil word, he does not fan it into flame; rather, he extinguishes it with his very gaze. I have given him the keys so that, through him, Allah—Mighty and Majestic—may open blind eyes, cause deaf ears to hear, bring veiled hearts to life, and straighten crooked tongues, until they testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah.”
