Chapter: An Account of His Commissioning as Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Know—may Allah have mercy on us and you—that our Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, had never ceased to be a prophet, even before Adam, peace be upon him, was created. He passed through the loins of the prophets and the sons of prophets by lawful marriage until Allah Most High brought him forth from his mother’s womb. His gracious Lord preserved, guarded, and protected him until he reached maturity.
Allah, Mighty and Majestic, made the idols of Quraysh and the unbelief they practiced hateful to him. His Lord taught him neither poetry nor any of the ways of the Age of Ignorance. Rather, his Lord inspired him to worship Him alone, without partner. Satan had no power over him, and he worshipped his gracious Lord with pure devotion until revelation descended upon him, he was commanded to convey the message, and he was sent to all creation, both humankind and jinn.
He was commissioned at the age of forty. He remained in Mecca for ten years, calling its people to Allah, Mighty and Majestic. They harmed him, yet he remained patient; they behaved insolently toward him, yet he showed forbearance. Allah, Mighty and Majestic, then permitted him to migrate to Medina. He migrated there and remained there for ten years. He died after reaching the age of sixty—may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
