961 — Abū Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Makhlad al-Attār narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Sinān al-Qazzāz, Abū al-Hasan, narrated to us, saying: Yaqub ibn Muhammad al-Zuhrī narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Azīz ibn Imrān narrated to us, from his father, from Ibn al-Miswar ibn Makhrama, from his father, from al-Abbās ibn Abd al-Muttalib, who said: Abd al-Muttalib said:
“I came to Yemen and stayed with a bishop there. A Jewish scholar used to pass by me, and one day he said to me, ‘O Abd al-Muttalib, will you uncover your body for me so that I may examine it?’
“I replied, ‘I will uncover my body for you, except for ⦗1421⦘ my private parts.’ I uncovered my body, and he sniffed me. He then sniffed my right nostril, followed by my left, and said, ‘O Abd al-Muttalib, I perceive prophethood in your right nostril and kingship in your left. Do you have a shāʿa?’
“I asked, ‘What is a shāʿa?’
“He replied, ‘A wife.’
“I said, ‘Not at present.’
“He said, ‘Then marry among Banū Zuhra.’
“When I returned, I married among Banū Zuhra. Quraysh then said, ‘Abd Allah has been more fortunate than his father, Abd al-Muttalib.’”
