Chapter: Mention of the Words of Allah, Mighty and Majestic: “And your passage through those who prostrate” [al-Shuʿarāʾ: 219]
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said: Know—may Allah have mercy on us and you—that marriage in the pre-Islamic age took various objectionable forms, with the exception of one: valid marriage. This is the form of marriage that the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—prescribed for his nation: a man asks another man for the hand of a woman under his guardianship, and he marries her to him with a bridal gift and witnesses.
Allah, Mighty and Majestic, thus exalted the rank of our Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—and protected him from the marriage practices of the pre-Islamic age. Through valid marriage, He caused him to pass through pure loins from the time of Adam onward, transmitting him through the loins of the prophets and the children of the prophets, until He brought him forth through valid marriage—peace and blessings be upon him.
