954 — Abū Bakr Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Abd al-Hamīd al-Wāsitī narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Maymūn al-Khayyāt narrated to us, saying: Sufyān narrated to us. He said that he had heard with his own ears and retained in his heart what Ibn Abī Najīh narrated from Mujāhid concerning these two verses. Regarding the words of Allah Most High, “And We raised your renown for you” [al-Sharh: 4], he said: “I am never mentioned without you being mentioned with Me: ‘I testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and I testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah.’” Regarding the words of Allah Most High, “And indeed, it is an honor for you and your people” [al-Zukhruf: 44], he said: “It will be asked, ‘To what people does this man belong?’ It will be said, ‘To the Arabs.’ Then it will be asked, ‘To which of the Arabs?’ It will be said, ‘To Quraysh.’”
