Know—may Allah have mercy upon you—that it is unlawful for anyone to contravene anything the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—has prohibited. A prohibition is to be understood as indicating unlawfulness unless evidence is transmitted from him showing that he intended by it something other than unlawfulness. Otherwise, everything he prohibited is unlawful. Allah—glorious and exalted is He—said:
“Whatever the Messenger gives you, take it; and whatever he forbids you, refrain from it.” [Al-Hashr: 7]
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah Most High have mercy upon him—said: This is what occurred to me to mention of the honors Allah—glorious and exalted is He—conferred upon him in the Quran. I have mentioned enough of them for anyone who understands. I shall now relate, one after another, further honors Allah—glorious and exalted is He—conferred upon him, as reported in the sunnah concerning him and in the accounts transmitted from his Companions. Through these, Allah—glorious and exalted is He—delights the eyes of the believers, increases them in faith upon their faith, and increases their love and reverence for the Messenger—may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Allah alone grants success in this and provides assistance in attaining it.
