guiding him to the straight path, and informed him that He would grant him mighty support. He—glorified and exalted is He—said:

“Indeed, We have granted you a clear triumph, so that Allah may forgive you your former and later sins, perfect His favor upon you, guide you to a straight path, and grant you mighty support.” [Al-Fath: 1]

Allah—glorified and exalted is He—then declared that those who pledge allegiance to the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—are in fact pledging allegiance to Allah—glorified and exalted is He—because of Muhammad’s exalted standing with his Lord, Most High. He, majestic is His remembrance, said:

“Indeed, those who pledge allegiance to you are only pledging allegiance to Allah. The Hand of Allah is above their hands. Whoever breaks his pledge does so only to his own detriment, while whoever fulfills what he has pledged to Allah will be granted a tremendous reward.” [Al-Fath: 10]

Then He, majestic is His remembrance, informed us that He was pleased with them when they pledged allegiance to His Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and were sincere in their pledge within their hearts. He—glorified and exalted is He—said:

“Allah was certainly pleased with the believers when they pledged allegiance to you beneath the tree. He knew what was in their hearts, so He sent tranquility down upon them and rewarded them with a victory close at hand.” [Al-Fath: 18]

Allah, majestic is His remembrance, then commanded the believers to follow the example of the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—in their affairs. He said:

“You certainly have an excellent example in the Messenger of Allah for whoever places his hope in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah often.” [Al-Ahzāb
