how they will bitterly regret having forsaken obedience to Allah and His Messenger, wondering why they had not obeyed Allah and His Messenger. Thus they will repent when repentance can no longer benefit them, and grieve when grief can no longer avail them. He—exalted is His remembrance—said:

“On the Day their faces are turned over in the Fire, they will say, ‘If only we had obeyed Allah and obeyed the Messenger!’” [Al-Ahzāb: 66]

And so on to the end of the verse.

Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said: Do you not see—may Allah have mercy on you—how Allah—glorious and mighty—has honored our Prophet Muhammad—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—in every circumstance, ever increasing him in honor upon honor in this world and the Hereafter?

Then know, O nation of Muhammad, O believers, that Allah—glorious and mighty—has required all creation to honor the exalted rank of His Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—by showing him reverence and veneration. They must not raise their voices above his voice or speak loudly to him when addressing him, as they do to one another. Rather, they must keep their voices low when he speaks, all out of reverence for him. He also informed them that whoever contravenes what Allah commanded regarding the honor due to My Messenger—I shall cause his deeds to come to nothing without his realizing it. Then He—mighty and majestic—said
