find the description of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in the Torah and the Gospel, and that he is a prophet. He required them to follow and support him. He—exalted be His mention—said:
“My punishment—I afflict with it whom I will, but My mercy encompasses all things. I shall ordain it for those who are mindful of Me, give zakat, and believe in Our signs—those who follow the Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, whom they find written in the Torah and the Gospel in their possession. He commands them to what is right, forbids them from what is wrong, makes lawful for them good things, forbids them impure things, and relieves them of their burden” [al-A‘rāf: 156], through His words, “the successful” [al-Baqarah: 5].
Allah, exalted be He, also said:
“O People of the Scripture, Our Messenger has come to you, making clear to you much of what you used to conceal of the Scripture and overlooking much. There has indeed come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book” [al-Mā’idah: 15], through His words, “a straight path” [al-Baqarah: 142].
And Allah, exalted be He, said:
“O People of the Scripture, Our Messenger has come to you after an interval between messengers, making matters clear to you, lest you say, ‘No bearer of glad tidings or warner ever came to us.’ A bearer of glad tidings and a warner has now come to you, and Allah has power over all things.” [al-Mā’idah: 19]
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn (may Allah have mercy upon him) said:
Thus Allah, exalted be He, refuted the arguments of the followers of the two Scriptures by informing them of his description in their scriptures, and that what Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) brought is the light and the truth, and that it brings them out of darkness
