942 — Al-Firyābī also informed us, saying: Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah and Alī ibn al-Madīnī narrated to us; they both said: Abū Muāwiyah Muhammad ibn Khāzim narrated to us, saying: Al-Amash narrated to us, from Abū Sālih, from Abū Saīd al-Khudrī, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:

“On the Day of Resurrection, death will be brought forth as though it were a mottled black-and-white ram. It will be made to stand between Paradise and the Fire. Then it will be said, ‘O people of Paradise, do you recognize this?’ They will crane their necks, look, and say, ‘This is death.’ Then it will be said, ‘O people of the Fire, do you recognize this?’ They will crane their necks, look, ⦗1382⦘ and say, ‘This is death.’ It will then be commanded that it be slaughtered. Then it will be said, ‘O people of Paradise, eternity and no death! O people of the Fire, eternity and no death!’”

Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited: “Warn them of the Day of Regret, when the matter will have been decided, while they remain heedless and do not believe” [Maryam: 39].

Both of these hadiths have numerous routes of transmission.
