Al-Shariah li-al-AjurriAl-Ajurri

941 — Al-Firyābī informed us, saying: Ishāq ibn Rāhawayh narrated to us, saying: Al-Nadr ibn Shumayl informed us, from Hammād ibn Salamah, from Āsim ibn Abī al-Najūd, from Abū Sālih, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:

“On the Day of Resurrection, death will be brought forth in the form of a mottled black-and-white ram. It will be made to stand between Paradise and the Fire. Then it will be proclaimed, ‘O people of Paradise!’ They will crane their necks and look. Then it will be proclaimed, ‘O people of the Fire!’ They will crane their necks and look, thinking that relief has come. Death will then be summoned and slaughtered between Paradise and the Fire, and it will be proclaimed, ‘O people of Paradise, eternity with no death therein! O people of the Fire, eternity with no death therein!’” ⦗1381⦘

Ishāq said: Al-Nadr said, “The meaning of aʿfar (mottled) is that it has both white and black in it.”
