940 – Ibn Sāʿid Abū Muhammad narrated to us, saying: Bahr ibn Nasr al-Khawlānī narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Wahb narrated to us, saying: Zamʿa ibn Sālih narrated to me, from ʿĪsā ibn ʿĀsim, from Zirr ibn Hubaysh, from Anas ibn Mālik, who said: We performed the dawn prayer with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. While he was praying, he extended his hand and then drew it back. When he had finished the prayer, we asked, “O Messenger of Allah, during this prayer you did something that you had never done in any prayer ⦗1370⦘ before it.” He said, “Paradise was shown to me and presented before me. I saw therein a grapevine with low-hanging clusters and grapes like gourds. I wanted to take some from it, but it was revealed to me, ‘Step back,’ so I stepped back. Then the Fire was presented before me, between me and you, until I could see my shadow and yours. I gestured to you to step back.” He then related the remainder of the hadith. Allah knows best.
