Al-Shariah li-al-AjurriAl-Ajurri

92 — Al-Firyābī informed us, saying: Al-Hasan ibn ʿAlī al-Hulwānī narrated to us in Tarsus ⦗408⦘ in the year 233 AH, saying: I heard Mutarrif ibn ʿAbd Allāh say: Whenever those who deviated in religion were mentioned in Mālik ibn Anas’s presence, I heard him say: ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz said:

“The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and those vested with authority after him established sunnahs. Adhering to them means following the Book of Allah Most High, perfecting obedience to Allah Most High, and strengthening oneself in the religion of Allah. No created being has the right to change or alter them, nor to consider anything that contradicts them. Whoever follows their guidance is rightly guided, and whoever seeks support through them will be supported. But whoever abandons them follows a path other than that of the believers; Allah will leave him to what he has chosen and consign him to Hell—what an evil destination!”
