925 — Al-Firyābī also informed us. He said: Uthmān ibn Abī Shayba narrated to us. He said ⦗1356⦘: Abd Allah ibn Idrīs narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishāq, from Ismāīl ibn Umayya, from Abū al-Zubayr, from Saīd ibn Jubayr, from Ibn Abbās, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“When your brethren fell at Uhud, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, placed their souls within green birds that visit the rivers of Paradise, eat of its fruits, and take shelter in lamps of gold suspended in the shade of the Throne. When they experienced the delight of their food, drink, and resting place, they said, ‘Who will convey to our brethren on our behalf that we are alive in Paradise and receiving provision, so that they do not lose their desire for jihad or shrink back in battle?’ Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said, ‘I shall convey it to them.’ Allah Most High then revealed: ‘Never think of those who were killed in the cause of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive with their Lord, receiving provision, rejoicing in what Allah has bestowed upon them of His bounty’ [Āl Imrān: 170]—to the end of the verse.”
