923 — Al-Firyābī also narrated to us. He said: Abd al-Rahmān ibn Ibrāhīm al-Dimashqī narrated to us. He said: Ibn Abī Fudayk narrated to us. He said: Ibn Abī Dhiʾb narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Amr ibn Atā, from Saīd ibn Yasār, from Abū Hurayra, who reported that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said:
“When a person is dying, the angels come to him. If he is a righteous man, they say, ‘Come forth, O good soul that was within a good body! Come forth in a praiseworthy state, and receive glad tidings of mercy, provision, and a Lord who is not angry with you.’ They continue saying this until it emerges.” He then related the hadith at length and said: “The righteous man sits in his grave without fear. He is then asked, ‘What was your religion?’ He replies, ‘Islam.’ He is asked, ‘What can you say about this man?’ He replies, ‘Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace). He came to us with clear proofs from Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and we believed and affirmed them.’ An opening toward Hell is then made for him, and he looks upon it as its parts crush one another. He is told, ‘Look at ⦗1355⦘ that from which Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has protected you.’ Then an opening toward Paradise is made for him, and he looks upon its splendor and all that it contains. He is told, ‘This is your place.’” He then related the rest of the hadith.
