If someone asks, “Explain this to us,” he is told: “Did Allah, Mighty and Majestic, not create Adam and Eve—peace be upon them both—and settle them in Paradise?”
Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said in Surah al-Baqarah:
“We said, ‘Adam, dwell in Paradise, you and your wife, and eat freely from wherever you please; but do not approach this tree, or you will both become wrongdoers.’” [al-Baqarah: 35]
Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said in Surah al-Aʿrāf:
“Children of Adam, do not let Satan tempt you as he caused your parents to be expelled from Paradise, stripping them of their garments to expose their nakedness to them”—and so on to the end of the verse.
Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said in Surah Tā Hā:
“When We said to the angels, ‘Prostrate yourselves before Adam,’ they prostrated, except Iblis, who refused. We then said, ‘Adam, this is indeed an enemy to you and your wife. Do not let him drive you both out of Paradise, causing you to suffer. There you will neither go hungry nor be unclothed, and you will neither suffer thirst nor the sun’s heat.’ But Satan whispered to him, saying, ‘Adam, shall I lead you to the Tree of Immortality and a kingdom that never decays?’ So they both ate from it, whereupon their nakedness became visible to them, and they began covering themselves with leaves from Paradise.”
Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said to Iblis in Surah Sād:
“Then get out of it, for you are accursed.” [al-Hijr: 34]—and so on to the end of the verse.
Thus Allah, Mighty and Majestic, expelled Adam and Eve from Paradise, then accepted their repentance and promised to return them to Paradise. He cursed Iblis, expelled him from Paradise, and caused him to despair of ever returning to it.
