88 — Abū Bakr ibn Abī Dāwūd narrated to us, saying: Ahmad ibn Sālih al-Misrī narrated to us, saying: Asad ibn Mūsā narrated to us, saying: Muʿāwiya ibn Sālih narrated to us, saying: Damra ibn Habīb narrated to us, from ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn ʿAmr al-Sulamī, who heard al-ʿIrbād ibn Sāriya al-Sulamī say: The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—delivered an exhortation to us that caused ⦗404⦘ eyes to shed tears and hearts to tremble. We said, “O Messenger of Allah, this is surely the exhortation of one bidding farewell, so what do you enjoin upon us?” He said, “I have left you upon the clear path, clear by night and by day. Only one doomed to destruction will stray from it after me. Whoever among you lives after me will see much disagreement. You must therefore adhere to what you know of my sunnah and the sunnah of the rightly guided caliphs, who were guided aright. You must obey, even if the one in authority is an Abyssinian slave. Bite onto it with your molar teeth.”

89 — Abū Bakr ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muhammad ibn ʿAbd al-Hamīd al-Wāsitī narrated to us, saying: Zuhayr ibn Muhammad al-Marwazī narrated to us, saying: Abū ʿĀsim al-Dahhāk ibn Makhlad informed us, from Thawr ibn Yazīd; and he related a similar version of the hadith in its entirety.
