884 — Abū Muslim Ibrāhīm ibn Abd Allāh al-Kashshī informed us. He said ⦗1314⦘: Alī ibn Abd Allāh al-Madīnī narrated to us. He said: Al-Walīd ibn Muslim informed us. He said: Abd al-Rahmān ibn Yazīd ibn Jābir narrated to me. He said: Yahyā ibn Jābir al-Tā’ī narrated to me. He said: Abd al-Rahmān ibn Jubayr ibn Nufayr narrated to me, from his father, Jubayr ibn Nufayr al-Hadramī, who heard al-Nawwās ibn Sam‘ān al-Kilābī say:

One morning, the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—spoke of the Antichrist, at times minimizing him and at others magnifying him, until we imagined that he was among the date palms. When we went to him later, he perceived this in us. We asked, “O Messenger of Allah, this morning you spoke of the Antichrist, at times minimizing him and at others magnifying him, until we imagined that he was among the date palms.” He replied: “It is something other than the Antichrist that I fear more for you. If he emerges while I am among you, I shall contend with him on your behalf. But if he emerges when I am no longer among you, each person must contend with him for himself, and Allah will watch over every Muslim in my stead.” He then mentioned the rest of the hadith.
