4 - Abū Bakr Jafar ibn Muhammad al-Firyābī informed us, saying: Hudba ibn Khālid narrated to us, saying: Abān ibn Yazīd narrated to us, saying: Yahyā ibn Abī Kathīr narrated to us that Zayd told him that Abū Salām told him that al-Hārith al-Asharī told him that the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said: “Allah Most High commanded John son of Zechariah to observe five precepts and to command the Children of Israel to observe them.” He then related the hadith in full, and the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said: “I command you to uphold five things that Allah Most High has commanded me: holding fast to the Community, hearing and obeying, emigration, and jihad in the cause of Allah. Whoever separates from the Community by so much as a handspan has cast the bond of Islam off his head—unless he returns.”
