67 – Al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Muhammad ibn Abī al-Qāsim, a freedman of Banū Hāshim who was nearly one hundred years old, related: “A devout worshipper once admonished a tyrant, whereupon the tyrant ordered that his hands and feet be cut off. He was then carried back to his place of worship. When his brothers came to console him, he said, ‘Do not console me; rather, congratulate me on what Allah has brought to me.’ He then prayed: ‘My Lord, I awake in the station of coveted gifts, beholding wonders. My Lord, You graciously draw near—even with Your favors—to one who offends You; how then will You draw near to one who is harmed for Your sake?’”
