Al-Rida 'an Allah bi-Qada'ihIbn Abi al-Dunya

61 – Al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; Ahmad ibn Ibrahim narrated to us; Ismaʿil ibn Ibrahim related to us, from Yunus, from al-Hasan, who said:

ʿImran ibn Husayn fell ill, and one of his neighbors came to see him. Because he had taken so long to visit, he offered an excuse and said, “O Abu Nujayd, part of what keeps me from coming is the hardship I see you suffering.” ʿImran replied, “Do not let that stop you, for the state dearest to me is the state dearest to Allah. Do not feel sad for me on account of what you see. Suppose what you witness is merely the recompense for sins that have already passed, while I am hoping for Allah’s pardon regarding what remains. For He has said: ‘Whatever calamity befalls you is because of what your own hands have earned, yet He pardons much’ (Q 42:30).”
