41 – al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Salamah ibn Shabīb told me; Sahl ibn ʿĀṣim narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us, from Makhlad ibn Ḥusayn, who said:
“In Basra there was a man named Shaddād who had been stricken with leprosy until his limbs had virtually fallen apart. Some visitors from among al-Ḥasan’s disciples came to see him and asked, ‘How do you find yourself?’ He replied, ‘In a good state.’ Then he said, ‘Since the day I collapsed, not a single portion of my night worship has ever escaped me. My only hardship is that I am no longer able to attend the congregational prayer.’"
