- Al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; he said: al-Ḥasan ibn Yaḥyā ibn Kathīr al-ʿAnbarī narrated to me, from Khuzaymah Abū Muḥammad al-ʿĀbid, who said:
“A prophet once passed by a man whom his own people had cast out because of severe affliction. The prophet said, ‘My Lord, this servant of Yours—if only You would move him out of this condition.’
Allah revealed to him, ‘Ask him: does he wish that I move him?’
So the prophet asked, ‘My good man, would you like Allah to transfer you from your present state to another?’
The man replied, ‘Shall I presume to choose on Allah’s behalf? The choice is His alone.’”
