17 – Al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; he said: al-Ḥasan b. ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz narrated to me, from Ḍamrah b. Rabīʿah, from Ibn Shawdhub, who said:
Malik b. Dīnār and Muḥammad b. Wāsiʿ once met and began reflecting on worldly living. Malik observed, “Nothing surpasses a man having a steady income that enables him to live.” Muḥammad responded, “Glad tidings to the one who finds breakfast but not supper, and finds supper but not breakfast, while remaining content with Allah”—or he said, “and Allah is pleased with him.”
