15 – Al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us. Al-Mufaḍḍal ibn Ghassān also narrated to me; he said: My father narrated to us, from Abū Zayd al-ʿAnazī; he said, from Simāk, from al-Agharr, who said:

ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib (may Allah be pleased with him) once noticed ʿAdī ibn Ḥātim looking dejected and asked, “O ʿAdī, why do I see you so downcast and sorrowful?”

He replied, “How could I not be, when my two sons have been killed and my eye has been put out?”

ʿAlī said, “O ʿAdī, whoever is content with Allah’s decree, the decree will run its course over him and he will have a reward; but whoever is not content with Allah’s decree, it will still run its course over him, yet his deeds will be rendered worthless.”
