11 – Al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; Muḥammad ibn ʿAbbād ibn Mūsā narrated to me, from al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī al-Baṣrī, who said:
A Bedouin woke up one morning to find that many of his camels had died, whereupon he recited:
[Basīṭ metre]
“By no means—by the One whose servant I am in worship! Were it not for the gloating of my enemies, I believe
No gladness would touch me were my camels still lounging in their pens, once Allah had decreed that it be otherwise.”
