93 – Al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; he said: Abū Bakr narrated to us; he said: ʿAlī ibn Abī Jaʿfar narrated to me; he said: Asad ibn Mūsā narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz ibn Muḥammad narrated to us; he said: Ḥafṣ ibn ʿUmar narrated to us:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, caught sight of a man whose appearance was disheveled and asked, “What is the matter with you? What concerns you?”
He replied, “O Messenger of Allah, I am anxious about that part of the world that has passed—because I did nothing in it—and I am anxious about what remains of it: what will my condition be?”
He said, “You are wearing yourself out.”
Sometime later the Prophet met him again, and the man’s appearance had improved. The man said, “O Messenger of Allah, someone came to me in a dream, placed his palm between my shoulders until I felt its coolness upon my heart, and then said, ‘Qul (Say): Allāhumma arzuqnī nafsan muṭmaʾinna tuwqinu bi-waʿdika wa tusallimu li-amrika wa tarḍā bi-qaḍāʾika (O Allah, grant me a tranquil soul that is certain of Your promise, submits to Your command, and is content with Your decree). By Allah, nothing that has passed or is yet to come troubles me any longer.’”
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “You have seen something good—so hold fast to it.”
