Al-Rida 'an Allah bi-Qada'ihIbn Abi al-Dunya

87 – al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us; he said: Muḥammad ibn Yazīd al-Ādamī narrated to us; he said: Ibn ʿUyaynah narrated to us, from a man, from Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī, that a member of his household fell ill and he was distressed on his account. When news of the man’s death reached him, his anxiety was lifted. People asked him about this, and he replied, “We ask Allah for what we love; but once what we dislike has come to pass, we do not oppose Allah in what He loves.”
