82 – al-Ḥusayn narrated to us; he said: ʿAbd Allah narrated to us; he said: Aḥmad ibn Ibrāhīm al-ʿAbdī narrated to us; he said: Yaʿlā ibn al-Ḥārith al-Muḥāribī narrated to us; he said: my father narrated from Sulaymān ibn Ḥabīb, who said:

When ʿAbd al-Malik ibn ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz died, Hishām ibn al-Ghāz entered to offer his condolences. ʿUmar said, “I seek refuge with Allah from harboring any love for something that runs counter to Allah’s love, for such an attachment would profit me nothing—neither when He tries me nor when He bestows His grace upon me.”
