76 – Khalaf ibn Hishām related to us; Khālid ibn ʿAbd Allāh narrated to us, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib, from his father, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, who said:
“There was a female dog belonging to some people among the Children of Israel that used to bark. A guest once lodged with them, so she said, ‘I will not bark at the guest of my household.’ Yet her puppies barked from within her womb. When this was reported to one of their prophets, he said, ‘The likeness of this dog is the likeness of a community that will arise after you: its foolish will overpower its forbearing—or its learned—members.’”
