Al-HilmIbn Abi al-Dunya

69 – He also recited to me a poem by Yazid ibn al-Hakam al-Thaqafī:

My gray hair and Islam will not let me pursue desire;
in both the whitening temples and in Islam a man finds a curb.

rather, praise be to God, I part with my wealth willingly.

I know that generosity is honor for its people,
and that anyone who does not shield himself from blame demeans himself.
