Al-HilmIbn Abi al-Dunya

62 – Muḥammad ibn Idrīs narrated to me; Mūsā ibn Muḥammad al-Najlī transmitted, saying: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz al-ʿUmari, the ascetic, on the authority of ʿUmar, the freedman of ʿUfrah, said:

“The one who humbles himself before the truth is closer to honor than the one who prides himself on falsehood. Whoever seeks honor through anything other than what is right, Allah will requite him with humiliation — a just recompense, free of any injustice.”
