Idris ibn al-Hakam al-ʿIri narrated to me; Muhammad ibn ʿUmar al-Madani narrated to us; ʿAbd al-Malik ibn al-Hasan, from ʿAbd Allah ibn Abi Sufyan, from his father, from Abu Hurayrah, related that the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—said:

“Seek elevation in Allah’s sight.”

They asked, “What is it, O Messenger of Allah?”

He replied, “That you maintain relations with the one who cuts you off, give to the one who withholds from you, and show forbearance toward the one who behaves ignorantly toward you.”
