39 – Hārūn ibn Abī Yaḥyā narrated to me, from Jaʿfar ibn Saʿīd al-Qurashī, who said: Muʿāwiyah asked ʿIrābah ibn Aws, “By what means did you attain leadership over your people?” He replied, “I would show forbearance toward their ignorant ones, give to anyone who asked, and devote myself to fulfilling their needs.”
