34 – My father related to me. He said: al-Asmaʿī reported, “al-Walīd ibn Qashʿam told me, from a man of the family of Jaʿwana, who said: ‘I once reviled a certain person on behalf of a man from Basra, and he met my abuse with forbearance; that single act enslaved me to him for a long time.’”
