27 – Mahmūd al-Warrāq recited:
I turned back the fool with the grace of forbearance,
and that very act served him as a rein and bridle.
He expected folly from me but did not find it;
I would not match his boorishness and merely said, “Peace.”
So he rose, dragging his feet in humiliation,
having earned nothing but reproach and censure.
Indeed, the superiority of patience is more penetrating with a fool,
and likelier thereby to secure one’s retribution.
