26 – Al-Ḥusayn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān recited to me, on the authority of Muḥammad ibn Ziyād al-Ḥārithī:
You would think them, through forbearance, deaf to every vile remark
and dumb before obscenity whenever tempers break out;
When they meet others, modesty and chastity make them seem infirm,
yet, in defending honor, they are like crouching lions.
They possess the lowliness of justice and the softness of true humility—
by their very meekness other people’s necks are made to bow.
It is as though they bore a stigma whose shame they fear,
but the only mark upon them is their avoidance of all that invites blame.
