107 – Ishaq ibn Ismaʿil narrated to us; Jarir narrated, from Mansur, from al-Shaʿbi, who said: Yazid ibn Saʿsaʿah ibn Surkhan said to Ibn Zayd, “I was dearer to your father than you are, while you are dearer to me than my own son. I commend two qualities to you, so safeguard them: deal graciously with the believer and deal graciously with the sinner. The sinner will be satisfied with you if you show good character, and it is, in any case, incumbent upon you to show good character toward the believer.”
