Al-HilmIbn Abi al-Dunya

95 – Muhammad ibn al-Husayn said: ʿUbayd ibn Ishaq al-Dabbi narrated to us. He said: I heard Musaylimah ibn Jaʿfar reporting from al-Sabbaḥ—or Abu al-Sabbaḥ al-Yamani—on the authority of Wahb ibn Munabbih, who said:

“Among the maxims of Luqman is that he said to his son: ‘My son, knowledge is a virtue, and combined with forbearance it is even finer; silence is a virtue, and coupled with wisdom it is even finer. My son, the tongue is the body’s fang, so beware lest something leave your tongue that ruins your body or incurs your Lord’s displeasure.’”
