8 – Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmmār al-Mawṣilī told us; al-Muʿāfā ibn ʿImrān narrated, from Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh, from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUbayd Allāh, from Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī, from ʿAlī, who traced it back to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He said:
“A Muslim man may, through forbearance, reach the rank of one who fasts by day and stands in prayer by night; yet he can still be recorded as a tyrant, though he rules no one except the members of his own household.”
