Yahyā ibn Habīb al-Hārithī narrated to us, saying: Muʿtamir ibn Sulaymān narrated to us, saying: My father reported from Sulaymān, from Abū Sālih, from Abū Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:
“Adam and Moses, peace be upon them both, debated. Moses said, ‘Adam, you are the one whom Allah created with His hand and into whom He breathed of His spirit. Did you lead people astray and cause them to leave Paradise?’
“Adam replied, ‘And you, Moses, Allah chose you by speaking to you. Do you blame me for a deed that Allah had decreed for me before He created the heavens and the earth?’”
He said, “Thus Adam prevailed over Moses in argument.”
I have already dictated this chapter in full in the Book of Divine Decree.
