Abū Mūsā narrated to us: Muhammad ibn Abī ʿAdī narrated to us, from Shuʿbah, from ⦗128⦘ Qatādah, from Anas ibn Mālik, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“The believers will gather on the Day of Resurrection. The thought will occur to them—or they will be inspired to it—and they will say, ‘If only we sought someone to intercede with our Lord, so that He might relieve us of this place of ours.’ They will come to Adam and say, ‘Adam, you are the father of mankind. Allah created you with His hand, made His angels prostrate before you, and taught you the names of all things.’”

He then related the hadith in full. Abū Bakr said: I have already recorded Shuʿbah’s report from Qatādah in the chapters on intercession.
